BRUSSELS — The EU’s six largest economies want to break political deadlocks preventing the bloc from creating a U.S.-style financial market in a crunch meeting later this month.

According to three diplomats briefed on the talks, a statement is expected to emerge May 28, when the finance ministers of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain are scheduled to meet in Berlin to unveil political compromises on the plan to turn the bloc into an investment powerhouse.

The EU, UK, and Switzerland have published a joint Testing and Readiness Plan for the move to T+1 settlement, outlining how market participants should prepare for the October 2027 transition.
The plan, issued by the EU T+1 Industry Committee, the UK Accelerated Settlement Taskforce and the Swiss Securities Post Trade Council, is the first coordinated testing framework across the three markets. It follows the creation of a joint workstream in December 2025 and reflects what the authors describe as a “high degree of cross-market participation” across the region.

FRANKFURT, March 23 (Reuters) – Artificial intelligence could lift euro zone productivity growth by more than 4 percentage points over the next decade, although a prolonged energy shock could slow progress, European Central Bank chief ‌economist Philip Lane said on Monday.

While the ECB’s immediate focus is the conflict in the Middle East and what it may mean for inflation, Lane highlighted AI as a key long-term driver for the bloc’s economic fortunes.
